As we navigate the complex business world spanning South Africa, Mauritius, and beyond, the South African Chamber of Commerce remains dedicated to supporting our members, promoting growth, and strengthening trade relationships. It’s my pleasure to share our Annual Report for 2024 and give you a quick overview of the key activities and events that have made a difference for our members.

Key Events and Relationship Building

We’ve focused on three main types of events to help build connections and open doors:

Chamber-Specific Events: These include breakfasts, dinners, and seminars where our members can network with influential figures from major companies, government entities, the EDB, and even global institutions like the IMF. It’s a chance for members to connect with people they might not normally cross paths with.
Collaborative Local Events: We regularly team up with other local chambers, such as AmCham, AusCham, and CCIFM. These collaborations provide our members with a platform to engage with a wider network of professionals from different industries, expanding perspectives and opportunities here in Mauritius.
International Chamber Events: Through our ties with South African Chambers worldwide, we’re creating connections that go beyond borders. During my recent trip to the U.S., we formed valuable partnerships. We celebrated South Africa’s National Day at the Nasdaq in New York together with Neil Diamond, President of the South African Chamber of Commerce in the USA. Our relationships with South African chambers in places like Dubai and Singapore mean our members can tap into these networks when travelling.

Promoting Bilateral Trade

One of our core goals is to drive bilateral trade between South Africa and Mauritius. During the year, we have hosted delegations with organisations such as the Export Credit Insurance Corporation (ECIC) to explore trade opportunities and strengthen ties. Our Chamber also collaborates regularly with the South African High Commission in Mauritius to provide meaningful information and advocate on behalf of our members for issues impacting business in both countries.

Growing Membership and Diverse Leadership

Our membership is steadily growing, which speaks to the value we bring to the business community. We are proud to have a multicultural board that offers a broad perspective, enriching our understanding of both the Mauritian and South African business landscapes.

Strategic Partnerships

Our strategic partners—Investec, Stewards Investment Capital, ENS Africa, and Sanlam—along with various sponsors, are instrumental in helping us fulfil our mission. Their support enables us to offer valuable resources and host events that keep our members connected and informed. We would like to thank them for their key involvement and also thank our event sponsors and partners for the various events organised during the year.

A Diverse Community

The South African Chamber of Commerce in Mauritius is a vibrant, diverse community made up of South Africans, Mauritians, and friends of bilateral trade. We welcome anyone who wants to be part of building stronger business and investment ties with South Africa.

In the coming year, we will continue to offer valuable events, insights, and networking opportunities. We will be deepening our partnerships with other chambers and strategic allies to deliver even more benefits to our members.
